Top 5 Reasons to Buy the Canon Rebel T3 (1100D) SLR

October 17, 2012

In this article I want to give you my top 5 reasons why you should buy the Canon EOS Rebel T3 Digital SLR camera. In my opinion this is one of the most attractive entry-level DSLR camera on the market in terms of price/performance. Let’s admit it, not all of us need all the sophisticated feature found on more expensive model. In 5 years from know there would be more advanced cameras and you will probably ask yourself how could I not need those features too. A few years back, the T3 was a god sent to any photographer, and in a matter a fact we’ve somehow became spoiled with every technology that gets out to the market. We might forget the reasons why we purchased a camera for the first place.

Canon EOS Rebel T3 / 1100D

I’m not saying let’s get back to the film days, but I’m pretty sure that many of you can leave without a touch-sensitive display, large viewfinder, metal body and super-duper AF performance. The Canon Rebel T3 is an amazing little camera.  Take it a few years back and it comparably perform like pro camera in terms of it image quality.  The fact is that most people will find the T3 / 1100D more than adequate for all of their needs.  I’ve compared the Canon Rebel T3 vs T3i and T4i and find the T3 to perform even better than the other two cameras in terms of high ISO performance.  It’s the perfect camera for beginners that want to explore the DSLR world and for advanced photographers who want to unleash their creativity.

As for the time of writing this post, the Canon Rebel T3 is the top rated product in the Camera & Photo category on Amazon!  – with 4.8 stars and 287 customer reviews, you agree with me that so many people can’t be wrong about this camera.  People talking about how great the image quality is and  that’s stand side by side with my image quality analysis. Some of customer’s reactions: “Perfect”..”, “Best Camera Ever!!”, “Awesome”, “great bang for the buck”, etc, etc.

If I had to recommend a DSLR camera for beginners, the T3 would be it. It’s also the perfect camera for the family and casual photographer on a budget. It’s a camera that won’t disappoint you and will result in amazing high-quality images. The camera is ‘just a tool’, but what a tool it is!

These are the TOP 5 Reasons why I think you should buy the T3:

Class Leading High ISO Performance

You can read my analysis but Don’t take my word for it, go on and observe and compare some high ISO images yourself. The high ISO performance is amazing, even at ISO800 the image looks clean and very usable.  The colors are punchy and sharpness is excellent (JPEG). I did compareT3 sample images on and and came to the same conclusion: I rocks!

If you are the ones who do some heavy pixel-peeping, the T3 / 1100D will satisfy you too.  It result in high quality images that brings me to the reason I’ve decided to purchase the 400D a few years back. Those smooth, noise free images that just looks awesome. Pack this camera with a good lens and what’s left is go out be creative and come back home with mind blowing photos, both in daylight and low-light.

Full Control Over Exposure

That might sound obvious, but not for everyone comes from P&S. The T3 has its cons compared to more advanced models, but the most important thing s not taken from you, and that’s the full control over exposure.  You have full control of the shutter speed, aperture and ISO, which gives advanced photographers pretty much full control over the exposure and get the result they want to achieve.  The T3 is equipped with the same 63-zone SP TTL metering system that you find on the T4i and T3i, Canon didn’t touch that. That means that the camera can make smart decision and result in more accurate exposure in every shot, even if you shoot in fully automatic mode.

Affordable Price

The T3 appealed to much much people because of its relatively low price. It allows people on a tight budget to taste how it feels like to shoot with a DSLR camera. Once you try it you never go back to shooting with cheapo P&S cameras ever again. If a few years back we were amazed to find a sub-$1000 SLR camera, the T3 costs more than half that price (currently ~$460 on Amazon). Who have imagined that we come to the day that you can get a DSLR camera for such a low price. Believe me, spend those extra dollars on a good lens and you will thanks me for doing so. What matters at the end of the day is not how big the back LCD screen is, what matters is the ability to have a tool that can allow you to expand your creative potential and return home with gorgeous photos to share with anyone. You won’t feel a whole in your pocket, and the result that you get (for many of you) will be the same as with what you get with much more expensive DSLR cameras.

Excellent Battery Life

This might sound odd, but you learn to appreciate it only when you realize that the battery dies on you and you missed some great shots. With 700 shots (CIPA) this camera outperforms the T4i and T3i (both have 440 shots). This means that you can shoot much longer, both videos and stills.  Just go out to the field and start shooting photos, don’t worry whether your battery is going to die on you.  You can buy a second battery if you really need it, but why pay $17 for another LP-E10 battery? – With the T3 you don’t have to because battery life is excellent. Saves money and allows you to shoot all day long. Whether you want to extend battery life and improve ergonomics, you can buy a 3rd party high quality vertical battery grip for the T3/1100D on Amazon.

So Many People Can’t Be Wrong

Yes, it’s a reason, and I want to know what other people think about this camera experiencing it first hand. Reading a review online is one thing, but hearing from amateur photographers who used this camera is another thing. The Canon T3 has been praised all over the the world. People just felt in love with this camera.  You can call it a Satisfaction-meter. As I said earlier, the Canon Rebel T3 / EOS 1100D it the top rated camera on Amazon, leaving nor far behind the Pentax K-5, Canon  T2i, Nikon D700 and Sony Alpha SLT-A57M. The T3 was able to top them all. People who try this camera for the first time learn to appreciate it’s advantages over point and shoot cameras. They come home with photos and feel like pro, shooting such high quality images. Pack this camera with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and you’ll see that pro results aren’t impossible to achieve.

You will learn to appreciate the ability to control depth of field and blur out the background out of focus (with appropriate lens and lens settings), fast AF and the responsiveness of the camera. You see something to shoot, aim and shoot and bamm, the image is yours and you won’t have to wait until the camera is ready – the T3 is ready to shoot instantly!

The thing is that the Canon Rebel T3 is just an amazing peace of machinery.  A photographic tool that allows beginners and advanced photographers to achieve pro-level results without breaking their wallet.  the cons might not be as big as you think: Do you need Full HD video recording?, Do you really need a 3-inch high-res screen, will it help you get better photos?, Does a metal body is really necessary?

Sometimes you find out that it’s better to go with the cheaper model, you won’t get any better photos by investing in a higher-price model. Most people who are just starting out with a DSLR won’t need the advanced features. I shoot with a DSLR camera for over a decade and I still don’t take advantage of those features. It really depends on what you are going to shoot. If you are an enthusiast video shooter, you probably better off with a more advanced model. But it all comes to the price eventually. The T3 offers the best bang for the buck, hands down. There is a very good reason why the T3 became such a popular and high-rated camera, and it’s not only on Amazon. So there you have it, if you want my recommendation, get the Canon Rebel T3, it’s worth every penny. I also recommend buying it with the 18-55mm lens if you are just starting out, although I always recommend getting the 50mm f/1.8 II lens for low light shooting and the ability to shoot subjects with very shallow depth of field. Beyond all that I didn’t even mention the Video quality, which is incredible. So.. did you make up your mind yet? – I did.
